a lot of the modern ones have a little dial to adjust the amps so it can be adequate for starting, but blow quickly when circuit is overloaded. If you didn't want to take a gamble hooking up a cord to the motor as a test sounds reasonable, you might want to check the size of the house breaker it's running off of especially if it's not your house as you could pop it if the motor is bunned. if it cant be run or tested then that's a deterrent for other buyers and should affect the value. If the electrical parts need to be replaced it's not the end of the world but you can spend a little on those parts so it's something to consider. I think right and left tilt saws have a different motor, different mount, mine is right tilt which Is the oddball I believe, but I never really wish it was different. if the motor has a thermal overload I'm not aware of it. nice to have a convenient lockout and a convenient stop button and I'd add that for sure, but I wonder if it was only basically a light switch to begin with. I'd want an overload because the motor is special and not a standard mounting so it adds protection for the motor but that can be added. did they even have a contactor when they were original? almost every saw I see has a more modern starter and an overload. Its probably a 20 amp switch, a bit heavier than a standard light switch used in a house.
DELTA UNISAW SWITCH REPLACEMENT SERIES
I can tell the switch is original as it has some art deco styling to the coverplate and it's still hooked to the motor in series after the new box. it was modified with a modern contactor, overload and contactor but I'm not sure if it originally even had a contactor. Make sure it has a steel enclosure so you can mount it and do your hookup without too much work on your part.Mine is an older one and it has basically a light switch.
DELTA UNISAW SWITCH REPLACEMENT UPGRADE
Your idea of the Delta or Powermatic switch upgrade seems good. Check back in a day or so as I'll post what I can find. I have seen push botton switches made by Cutler-Hammer used on drill presses that would be great for you, but I'm still trying to find good info on them. This is provided your motor is a 120/240 Volt motor.
DELTA UNISAW SWITCH REPLACEMENT INSTALL
If you have 240 Volt power nearby, you would do well to rewire the motor and install the proper plug on your power cord. Give them the model of your saw, motor specs and tell them you're running it setup for 120 Volt single phase power. If you have any good woodworking machinery dealers that do servicing work, you would do well to contact them. That's where you will get into big $$$ and some fancy wiring. I'm pretty sure you won't need a push putton switch and a magnetic starter for your saw. You'll need a switch with a horse power rating at 125 Volts of the same or greater than your motor. I'd appreciate some advice from folks that have made their saw's power on/off switch safer. I am also considering getting the Jet table saw switch but at this time I do not know what the cost is. I have only seen very expensive 240v single and three phase magnetic push button switch assemblies.I am looking for a 120vac 15amp switch that won't require a second mortgage! Any users of these switches and comments please. Both of these switches seem a good deal yet neither are the magnetic style. I also looked at the Bench Dog pwr400 Power Loc switch about $50.00. I looked at the Delta 34-278 switch kit upgrade about $50.00. I understand the value of the magnetic type switch. I am looking at installing a new switch on the left side but I'm at a loss here. I am left handed, and that switch is just plain UNSAFE! This saw has that awful small toggle power switch on the lower right side.I'm sure many of you are familiar with this unit. I have a Delta contractor's style table saw.
